Topic 1:Cells
Activity 1:
What Did We Learn in Grade 5 ?
We learned that a cell is a smallest functional unit in all living organisms and we learned that cells are in our body.
What will we learn in Grade 6 ?
I think we will learn about what is in the cell and how the things in cells act and help organisms, and i also think we will learn hoy many types of cells are in are body.
Parts of a Cell:
Cell Membrane: A protective layer that covers a cell's surface and acts like a barrier between the inside of a cell and the cell's environment.
Cytoplasm: The region enclosed by the cell membrane that enclosed by the cell membrane that is like a jell like structure and contains all the organelles.
Organelle: Is the small bodies in the cell's cytoplasm that has a spesified function.
DNA: DNA, is a genetic material that gives instructions to all the cell processes.
Eukaryotic Cell:
The Eukaryotic cell is more complex and is bigger compared to the Prokaryotic cell, the Eukaryotic cell is Multicellular which means its not a single cell.
Prokaryotic Cell:
Prokaryotic cells small and simple compared to the Eukaryotic cell, Eukaryotic cells are evolved from Prokaryotic cells, Prokaryotic cells are unicellular which mean they are single cells.
Compare and Contrast
Presentation about Mitochondria:
Mitochondria is the powerhouse of a cell and it takes the nutrients breaks them down then makes them into energy for the cell, that is why the Mitochondria is called the powerhouse of a cell.

Animal Tissue |
Plant Tissue |
1. Muscle Tissue: help in movement.
2. Connective Tissue: bone and blood, transport water and nutrient, connect body parts, support. 3. Nervous Tissue: messaging system 4. Epithelial Tissue: protection(example:skin). |
1. Transport Tissue: water and nutrients all over the plant.
2. Ground Tissue: Support and shape, make food, absorb light, help photosynthesis. 3. Protective Tissue: protect and support. |
Both
1. Transport Tissue - Connective Tissue
2. Protective Tissue - Epithelial Tissue

Organ System:
Homeostasis:
Homeostasis is the balance of changes in the environment.
Give some examples of Homeostasis:
Photosynthesis
What is Photosynthesis: Photosynthesis is the process of making food in the plant so it could release oxygen for the environment around it.
To make Photosynthesis you need: Sunlight, water and carbon dioxide.
Cellular Respiration
What is Cellular Respiration: Cellular Respiration is the store of energy which is ATP.
The Mitochondria takes in the molecules then breaks them into 3 them makes them into energy which is stored as ATP.

Biotechnology:
Genetic Engineering:
Genetic Engineering is the process of extracting DNA from an organism, then modifying it and then insert it back or in another organism.
Artificial Selection:
Artificial Selection is the process of selecting and breeding organisms with certain desired traits.
Cloning:
Cloning is the process of making an identical copy of something.
DNA AND RNA:
DNA(Deoxyribonucleic Acid): is like a recipe, the RNA takes the information from DNA then RNA makes the protein. DNA is in each cell in every organism and the DNA tells what proteins for the RNA to make.
Punnet Square: |
RNA(Ribonucleic acid):is a long single stranded chain of cells that process protein. The DNA tells the RNA which kind of protein to make.

Speed:
My group and I tried to find the speed of a bunch of objects by rolling them and measuring time taken to cover all of the objects. In the first experiment we found the speed for the ping pong ball, marble, bead and pencil.
